SCSM Sweeney State Command Sergeant Major Sweeney was born in WestPoint, NY. He graduated high School in 1975 and joined the Army in 22 August 1976. He attend basic and AIT at Ft Leonard Wood, MO.

Equip Operator & Operations NCO for Co C, 16th Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Division, Feurth, Germany

SCSM Sweeney joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard January 1981 and was assigned to the 101st Engineer Battalion. Assignments in the 101st Engineer Battalion were, Asst Squad Leader, Squad Leader, and Platoon Sergeant for Co C 101st En Bn; Battalion Operations Sergeant and First Sergeant for HQs 101st En Bn.

In July 1993, SCSM Sweeney was transferred to the Washington Army National Guard. Assignments in the Washington Army National were, Readiness NCO & 1SG for Co B 898 En Bn; Bn Operations NCO – 898 En Bn. Operations NCO, HQ STARC; Command Sergeant Major 420th Chemical Battalion. Command Sergeant Major for the 205th Regiment (Leadership). Command Sergeant Major 81st Brigade Combat Team serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2008 – August 2009.

SCSM Sweeney is the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Washington National Guard and the Command Sergeant Major for the Washington Army National Guard.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC); Army Commendation Medal (4 OCL), Army Achievement Medal (4 OCL) Washington State Army Commendation Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Washington State Emergency Medal (5OCL), Massachusetts Emergency Medal; Bronze Defleury, U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers.

CSM Sweeney resides in Graham, Washington with his wife and son.
