- A magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the Puget Sound area at 10:54 am on 28 Feb, 2001.
- It was the
strongest quake to hit the area since 1949.
- The epicenter was 30
miles below the surface near Olympia WA.
- The quake shook the
area strongly for more than 40 seconds.
- The quake closed roads,
bridges, airports, schools and businesses throughout the
Puget Sound.
- Although hundreds were
injured, there was only one fatality.
